WordPress website price: budgeting guide
WordPress is used by 39.6% of all websites and by 58.4% of the sites where W3Techs can see which system is behind them (W3Techs, 18 October 2026). The software itself is free. The question is what the rest costs and what belongs in the budget.
Here I go through the items using prices from the providers' own pages, read on 18 October 2026, and my own fixed prices. All links are in the sources at the bottom.
In short
- Development is the big item. A Starter website with 5 pages costs DKK 12,000 excl. VAT with me. A landing page costs DKK 5,000.
- Hosting and a domain cost about DKK 1,700 a year incl. VAT with a Danish provider such as Simply, once the introductory price has ended.
- Plugins can be free. The paid versions in the tables below start at $49 a year.
- Operations cost your time, or from DKK 2,500 a month if I take responsibility.
What does a website cost in general?
If you simply ask what a website costs, whether it is built in WordPress or on another system, the price follows the scope: how many pages and features the site has, and who writes the texts. With me, a landing page costs DKK 5,000, and a Starter website with 5 pages costs DKK 12,000. A complete solution built from scratch starts from DKK 20,000. All prices are excl. VAT.

Development
This is where the price varies most, because it comes down to hours. My fixed prices are on the prices page and on the page about websites for businesses. All are excl. VAT:

You get a fixed price before I start. The price depends mostly on the number of pages, integrations with other systems and whether the texts are ready.
A new website in WordPress: what the price covers
The price of WordPress is the sum of two things: what it costs to have the site built, and what runs every year afterwards. For a new website in WordPress, my starting point is a Starter website. It consists of 5 pages with a blog, a contact form and a basic SEO setup, and I deliver it in 2 weeks. It comes with 30 days of support and 1 hour of training, so you can edit texts and images yourself afterwards. The price is DKK 12,000 excl. VAT, and it is fixed before I start.
Hosting and a domain are not included in the price, and ongoing operations are a separate agreement. I go through both below so you can set a complete budget.
When you compare quotes for a new website in WordPress, ask for these details in writing:
- How many pages the price covers, and what an extra page costs.
- Whether texts and images are included, or whether you supply them.
- Who owns the domain and the hosting.
- What happens after launch, and how long the support lasts.
- What a change costs afterwards. With me it is DKK 900 an hour excl. VAT.
Hosting
Hosting is where the site lives. Here are two concrete examples, so you can see the range:

Domain
At Simply, a .dk domain costs DKK 9 on registration and DKK 119 a year on renewal. A .com domain costs DKK 154.69 a year on renewal. Both prices are incl. VAT. The price of a .dk domain is set by the registrar, so it varies from provider to provider.
Make sure the domain is registered in the business's name and not the web agency's. Then you can always move.
Theme and page builder
There are good free themes, and many sites can be built with WordPress's own editor. If you use a page builder, here are two I work with myself:

Plugins
Most sites get by with a few plugins, and many of them are free. Here are prices for some of the ones I meet most often:

Every plugin is one more thing to keep updated. Fewer plugins give a faster and safer site.
Example: a small business site
An example with a Starter website, Simply Standard and a .dk domain. Simply's prices are converted to excl. VAT, so everything can be added up:
- Starter website with 5 pages: DKK 12,000
- Hosting, Simply Standard (renewal price): DKK 1,247.52 a year
- .dk domain (renewal price): DKK 95.20 a year
- Free theme and free plugins: DKK 0
First year: about DKK 13,340 excl. VAT. From the second year, hosting and domain cost about DKK 1,340 a year. In the first year the hosting is cheaper than shown here because of the introductory price.
On top of this comes operations, if you do not want to keep the site updated yourself.
What people forget
- Maintenance. WordPress, the theme and plugins must be updated, and someone has to watch the backups. You can do that yourself. If you want one person to be responsible, my maintenance agreement starts at DKK 2,500 a month excl. VAT.
- Email. Email does not come with WordPress. At Simply, email is included in the hosting plan. Google Workspace Starter has a list price of €6.80 per user per month on an annual commitment, excl. taxes. Google also shows a temporary discount, so check the price with Google before you order.
- Images. Your own photos or bought images must be in the budget if you do not have them.
- Cookies and privacy. Cookie consent, a privacy policy and data processing agreements must be in place.
How to keep the price down
Start with the pages that bring in customers, and build the rest later. Have the texts ready before development starts, because waiting and rewrites cost hours. Choose plugins with care, and count on renewal prices, not introductory prices.

I deliver a Starter website in 2 weeks. How fast it goes in practice depends on how quickly you give feedback and supply texts and images.
