Solaris – expect the unexpected
Solaris is a scout group in the Danish Scout Association (Det Danske Spejderkorps) that organises the Solaris race every August: a demanding adventure race for patrols, in a new location each year and with more than 20 years of tradition. The group is made up of volunteer leaders, and I am one of them.
On 3 June 2026 a completely new solaris.dk replaced the old WordPress site. The new site is built from scratch in Vue.js with a PHP backend and MySQL – and with a new motto throughout: "Expect the unexpected".
Public site
- The Solaris race: Information about the race, registration and previous races.
- Gallery: Photos and video from the races in a lightbox, shareable links to single photos and the option to ask for a photo to be removed – important when minors appear in the pictures.
- Events and projects: Team-building events and a page with the association's digital tools.
- Found by Google: The site is a Vue app, but every public page is prerendered to static HTML, so search engines and social media see real content.
Members' area
- Google sign-in for the leaders, with roles that control who can do what.
- Events and registration with a calendar and calendar files for your own calendar.
- Booking of the association's trailers and other resources, with approval and email notifications.
- Merchandise shop with an ordering window and stock control for items kept in stock.
- CMS for the front page and other pages, with version history, a media library with folders and an activity log of changes.
